If you Google “How to Buy a Website” the information you get back is all about Domains and how to buy them.
Now that’s funny, is a domain a website? No. Of course it isn’t, but if you follow those links you will see that after the domain you need a builder and hosting and OMG there is way more to starting a website and while you are feeling off balance a good percentage of you will choose what you think is the easy way out.
The Problem: it was all wrong from the beginning and companies are paying 10’s of thousands of dollars to lead you away from that 1st question of “How to Buy a Website”.
Over the years I’ve discovered there are questions customers will not ask and right from the 1st search some of you were confused because a domain name is not a website and doubt begins to set in. Some of you bought a great domain and then tried to find a way to edit it and make a site appear. Yes, I’ve seen it all.
Don’t feel bad because it was designed for you to fail.
SO WHAT IS THE MOST BASIC BREAKDOWN OF WHAT YOU NEED TO START A WEBSITE?
A Website
A Hosting Provider
A Website Name
I LOVE METAPHORS…
Imagine your new website is more like a house sitting on a plot of land with a street address.
The House and everything in it, how it looks, functions and so on is the “website“.
The Land it is sitting on is like “hosting” – which is something you would pay for each year like property tax.
The street address (ex. 522 prospect street) is like your location on the web “your website name”
